Merry Christmas!!
The biggest problem we have is the soil's mostly clay content. Water is absorbed but can quickly become super saturated leading to a landslide or it can run between irrigation pipes and the surrounding soil causing roads to fail-this happens fairly regularly in the mountain areas around here.
The amount of water you see is from several inches of rain over the course of an hour or so. It flows to the San Francisco Bay.
