Whoa!!

No idea, but I wouldn't stick *that* in my mouth!!

Fwiw, when I wanted to ID my own "mystery bug" a ways back, I got good answers from bugguide.net. I posted the pic, and people IDed the critter.

That does look like a beetle larva, probably one in the ladybird family (Coccinellidae). If you google image search "coccinellidae larvae" you'll find there are many similar critters to yours.

Gene - if you did put it in your mouth, it would not make much of a feed.

Leeroy, thank you. It is the larva of our steelblue ladybird

*SHRIEK!* Glad it's not truly as large as the photo, it could take over the WORLD!

Like something out of a campy sci-fi movie!

Thank you Kathy, Kt, and Mark.

No Kathy,it wasn't. I had ants there!!!! I had put my hat down while having lunch and put it on after to go out in the sun. I felt something crawling around. Took the hat off, and there were little ants everywhere. Fortunately, it was not difficult getting rid of the little b......lighters.

Kt, I often think, when looking at a preying mantis, how lucky we are that they do not grow any bigger. :-)
