Tim I love this event, made a great photo. Sorry you had to go take a shower after, but worth it. Right?

Hi, Tim --I hope this won't be Dust Bowl revisited! (I presume you have seen the PBS series. I went to a book-signing at a local bookstore last weekend where Ken Burns & Dayton Duncan were signing copies of their Dust Bowl book.) I highly recommend the PBS documentary.

Thanks Gingy ! I was flirting with an asthma attack and well on my way to destroying a decent camera , but it was worth it (I think ) . Thanks for the comment .

Excellent photo!

I look forward to seeing your dirt at my house near Dallas the next day or so when the approaching cold front sends it this direction. That happens fairly often.

I remember days like the one in your photograph. I grew up in Plainview and ate my share of Oklahoma dust that blew in. A great photograph and thanks for the memory, I guess.

Nice shots Sir!

Good grief! This looks worse than the dust storm I remember seeing when I was little in AZ back in '87. My Grandparents moved to the Panhandle back in the 40s and used to tell me about the dust storms that would roll through. I remember Grandmother saying that everything in the house had to be cleaned afterwards and that dirt got everywhere.

Great shot, Tim! Seeing this reminds me why we didn't move to Lubbock a few years back. We did spend 2 1/2 years in Phoenix, AZ in the middle '80s while stationed at Luke AFB and endured a few "brown outs" like this.

Tim, I've been away from WU for a while but when I come back to visit, I always look for your photos. I'm never disappointed. You really do capture life in rural west Texas and document the hardships that many face. Your photos are not only art, they are historic.

We refer to the dust storms as "West Texas Rain".
That dust will choke a person if out in it too long.

It WAS a doozy of a day weatherwise, Tim! Our dirt mixed with snow between Amarillo and home. Thought we were going to have to spend the night on the side of the road. Temps dropped from 64 degrees to 30 in an hour and then went down to 14 for a low that night.

Great perspective and shot! 10!

About docshovel39
docshovel39 Hello , my name is Tim . I live in the small farming community of Ropesville , Texas with my wife and photo partner Sherry . I got involved with photography because of my older brother Steve - a fantastic photographer who lives outside of Seattle , WA . My favorite work , apart from his , is a terrific book entitled " Ghosts in the Wilderness " by Tony and Eva Worobiec . It captures the remains of small , abandoned rural communities across the Midwest , much of it shot in black and white . I also have become a fan of photographer Jim McGuire . His black and white shots ( nashvilleportraits.com) are amazing . Thank you for your comments and have a GREAT day !
