This picture gives me the heeby-jeebies--I was traveling the Telluride loop and went on this road ON MY MOTORCYCLE and it began to rain, lightning, get very chilly--I was mighty glad to get out of the San Juans! SUPER CAPTURE!!

This reminds me of my last trip to Spokane,WA. Not the same highway, but still we had rain like that going through some of the passes in Wyoming, along with lots of traffic. Really scary. Great shot.

This is a great shot! I am amazed you got it because MDH is white knuckle ride for just about everyone and it took at least one hand to get the shot. You witnessed something incredible that you will never forget. Yes! Scary, but since you had no choice about being there....very heads up to get a shot! What an adventure!
I am very familiar with the weather in the San Juans and it will sneak up on you. A long time ago I got caught in a storm like this while hiking in the high country of the San Juans! We were in the open in a valley and had no where to go. We hunkered down and waited it out. I have never been that wet and cold with so far to go.... An unforgeable experience!

I am glad you are OK and safe ! Not a right place when rain comes. Especially if everything is dry beforehand.

Methinks you're very fortunate that those pebbles I see on the road weren't several hundred times larger...

We live in Montrose CO and drive this road alot when we go out for a day ride. I definitely would not have driven on it if it looked like this! YIKES. Unless you've ever driven it even this picture doesn't fully express the terrible fear this road can give a person AND that is without the rain!!! Wonderful photo but I'm glad you took it and I didn't. :)

Eek. You're lucky the road stayed open -- looks like several pieces of the mountain were trying to fall on it. Love the photo...

Oh my goodness - we drove this highway one year around Memorial Day. The view were so incredible that it took us all day to drive 70 miles because we kept stopping to take pix. Of course we were lucky and had great weather.
