This scene was imaged from the south side of the Midshipmen's bridge over the Severn River the morning after hurricane Isabel passed through the Maryland/Virginia area. The mouth of the Severn is off to the left side of the image. The camera was rested on the concrete railing of the bridge. Winds on the bridge were still blowing up river at more than 30 knots when the image was taken. The radiotelescope is normally on very dry ground. At the highest point of the storm surge which occurred about 4 hours after this image was captured, the door at the base of the radiotelescope was mostly under water. In the background a large up-rooted tree is visible as are several floating porta-johns. A smaller black dish antenna appears mostly submerged just to the right of the radiotelescope behind the chain-link fence.
