I have stood there a few times Dave and wondered why it has not been tarted up. Would certainly be a good tourist attraction on that side of Weston.Well done for AC.

Unexpected AC, thanks to the approvers & to those who rated and/or commented.
The RNLI lifeboat station (built originally in 1882) is on this pier but due to the poor state of the pier it is not open to the public. Birnbeck pier itself opened in June 1867.

Back in the day boats did dock here, it is the only pier in the country that links to an island.

That's an unusual one, I can't think of any other pleasure pier I have seen that runs to an island. Did it once dock boats at that spur on the right side (sorry starboard)?

About WurzelDave

WurzelDave

I'm a 'wurzel' who lives in South West England (UK) in the county of Somerset (next to Devon), famous for scrumpy cider, Cheddar cheese, The Wurzels (well worth going to see) & birth county of 2009 F1 world champion Jenson Button.Like the rest of the West Country, Somerset has many areas, places & landscapes worth a visit such as Glastonbury Tor & Abbey ruins, Quantock hills, West Somerset Railway, Cheddar Gorge, & Exmoor, to name but a very few.Favourite holiday destiations are Iceland (see alot of photos) & the Icehotel in Jukkasjarvi Sweden (also see photos). Still a lover of the flim camera, my first camera was an Halina 110 camera which you could buy flip flashes for! I have a Canon 3000V SLR film camera, also have some TLR cameras from the 1950's plus Canon powershot A3300 & SX150 digital cameras which are useful for close up macro shots & also makes film 'last' longer!
