From the time I was 10 years old -- I 'knew' what my career would be -- a 'Weather Man'. Born and raised in New York -- I got to experience and 'forecast' many of the great Nor'Easters of the 1950's and 60's. By the time I graduated from Florida State University in the early 1970's, I had already gained real-time experience at the National Hurricane Center under their Summer Intern program, had gotten certified in the use of the WSR-59 radar -- and was a certified NWS Weather Observer -- all in 1 summer. During my summer intership at NHC, I had (unofficially!) gotten to issue several Hurricane Advisory forecasts because it had become apparent to many of the original, great Hurricane forecasters at the NHC, that I had a 'gift for forecasting'. While still in school, I provided 'live' radio and T.V. Weather forecasts for the local station at FSU, and by 1977 was forecasting for the worlds largest, private forecast company at the time -- starting in Alaska! (At the time, exploratory drilling was being conducted by 7 oil companies in the Gulf of Alaska. The storms in the Gulf of Alaska make most Hurricanes seem like inconsequential, run of the mill low pressure systems!) In addition to forecasting for the Alaskan Gulf and North Slope, I gained real-time forecast experience for South America, the North Sea, southeast Asia and Australia. Over the next few years, I worked various specialized, aviation forecaster positions at 3 major airlines and by 1984, was promoted to Sr. Staff Specialist for United Airlines where I did extensive research into hurricanes, long range weather forecasting, and the complete design, development and installation of proprietary computer based support systems for our on shift forecasters and Flight Dispatchers. Forensic Meteorolgy became my primary focus in the mid to late 1990's. I currently provide 'Nearly Free' E-mail deliverd Weather Updates --Basic ($10/yr) and 'Enhanced'($25/yr) including Tropical Storm Forecasts. I'll soon be offering forecast services to the aviation, marine, and financial services (Commodity traders) industries (I trade oil futures as well) who require very specific, long and short range weather forecasts that are simply not available through the NWS. My posts to the Weather Underground and soon the NOWPUBLIC.com site are similar to the to the 'nearly free' Basic E-mail delivered updates I provide now.($10/yr). The E-mail updates always go out first -- and may include some interim updates that are not posted on the Weather Underground site due to time limitations.
