Somehow that symbol of the white rose does seem fitting at a time like this. A really nice idea all around.

I had to run out right after putting this up. Thanks for your comments. This is the only rose bush I own, most of my shots of roses come from my friend Cat's garden. This is a John F. Kennedy Rose . I noticed a bud this week. After watching the concert benifit for the red cross...I sent another donation and cried as I saw this 62 year old lady and her husband on Statten Island who lost their entire home. It was just gone. Looking through the area they found an image of her Mother in her wedding dress. It was beautiful and for me was a message of hope. It was then I decided in the morning...this morning I would shoot the white rose, which had bloomed ...in the name of hope for all those affected by Sandy. Everyone's stories have touched me so deeply.

Oh, how fitting, the language of flowers says that the white rose is for mourning, which does seem to fit right now. So many people suffering, so many lives lost. Your image is perfect. Kudos to you, and congratulations on the Blue Border recognition, Sharon.

Sharon..the very first thing I saw on TV yesterday morning was that same 62 yr old woman crying that she just wanted to go HOME!..and then showed the reporter the only thing she could find..the photo of her Mom in her wedding dress..I just stood there with tears pouring down..and that's only one of hundred's..if not thousands..of heartwrenching stories coming out of this unbelievable disaster..I SO wish I was able to be there to help..but distance, age, and responsibilites here make that impossible..so a donation has been made..

Could only be yours, Sharon. Beautiful and thoughtful tribute for all those suffering right now in our country. Brings tears to my eyes - and going back to the Red Cross site again to help.

The lovely illumination of this beautiful rose is like a beacon of light & HOPE in these dark days for so many after the terrible storm in the northeast. I too, saw the woman you and Suzi talked about who just wanted to go home...but there was no home to go to. Everything had been swept away by the storm.

For those who would really like to help, the best way is with a gift to the American Red Cross of whatever you're able to give...a dollar, ten dollars, whatever. Every penny helps....so many are in need right now. Just click on this link:

Thank you, Sharon, for your beautiful photo and for your caring heart.

Thank you Kathy. We are having summer now. It was 76 today. We will have roses till we get cold and then if it warms up they can bloom anytime in these micro climates.
