These are called California Quail. In Southern Nevada they have Gambel Quail, and in the plains they have Bob White Quail.

HOW LUCKY CAN YOU BE??? I so envy you this easy access you have to these quail!!! I can't believe how they are in your backyard???? Good for you!! do you feed them as well??? Wondered what they ate....our quail population is sadly decreasing as the farmer's don't pay attention to caring for our wild creature environment,in order to make room for more kernels of corn..and bulldoze over everything in site...one of these days soon,we may pay the ultimate price,,the beginning of another dust bowl event looming ever so closely....sorry to go off like that,,just very concerned..I am proud of you for sharing what you observe from your part of the world!!! Congratulations my friend!!!:-D Let me know whenever you find more okay???

Mindi - we have a lot of quail all year long. They'll eat anything - whatever drops down from the bird feeders, apples, oranges, bread.
