@ StrangerThanYou - I suspect those are processing artifacts, perhaps from Photoshop's Sharpening tool or Unsharp Mask --- just my opinion. Note the extra number of "stars" around the left perimeter, and the grainy texture on the Moon's surface. I first thought it was dust on my monitor :)
