With the hartshaped leaves and yellow flowers it looks like a Cucumber. Cucumis sativus. If it is not, it should be a near cousin.
Good luck!

Doesn't look like MY cucumbers. They grow on the ground... viney. This one makes pods. Anyway... Shirl, I hope we find out what it is.

Velvetleaf, Abutilon theophrasti, in the mallow family (Malvaceae). Just a weed, not related to cucumbers.

It sure looks like it makes a spectacular plant in the space you have it in, though! Nice to know what it is, Kathy! Thanks for all the research! :-)
Isn't it interesting how we label some plants a "flower" or a "vegetable" but then call other plants that are just as beautiful a "weed"?? :D They all have their own beauty.

Definition of a weed: a plant that is growing where it is not wanted. Therefore, grasses growing in the flowerbeds are weeds, and flowers growing in the grass are weeds. However, there are noxious weeds, the real takeover types, and I believe this is classified as one of those, though not so common as many.

Definitely a weed! Lots of them on the farm. As a kid they gave me an excuse to play with a machete. Luckily I managed not to hurt myself.
