Thank you, to have a calm day and water on the coast is a rare occurance, we were up early to take advantage of it. The two heron I photographed were more interested in each other and not concerned with my or my two other photographer buddies. Some days things just work. It can't be planned.

Now that is good use of a smooth water surface, something we haven't seen around here for a while. Very nice heron capture. Around here they are very skidish. Congrats and 10 from SW Iowa

About Olbetsy

Olbetsy

I am somewhat new to photography. I began with a free point and shoot that came with a computer. It was so much fun, I purchased a SLR camera in 2006 and the hobby swiftly took hold. My camera gets me out and about and has enhanced all my senses finding what this world has to offer. I am also a quilt artist and I use my photography to help me understand color and form that can transfer into quilt art. I am an active member of Emerald Photographic Society and was honored as most promising photographer in 2007 and photographer of the year in 2008. I have recently had images published in National Geographic, the National Wildlife refuge library and National Wildlife Federation Magazine. The contributors to my success are; I carry my camera (s) with me most of the time and I have an Itinerate job which takes me all over rural Linn County Oregon. Many of the photos I post here were shot on a lunch break or from my car window when somethings catches my eye. I am not a person with the patience to set up the perfect photo, instead I bank on spontaneity. I anticipate everything but expect nothing. I look for the big picture though often find a closer focus once I stop and look. Weather is the most important element of outdoor photography. I watch the clouds, temperature, lighting and seasonal changes. Most importantly I have grown to appreciate fellow photographers for insights, tips and all around friendship as much as the hobby itself. I love to see through the eyes of others and WU is a favorite place to visit. I am inspired by the talent found here and have a never ending itch to travel and learn!
