Ha! Ha! Just a little play on the movie, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Poor baby was so hot that he just flopped himself on top of this birdhouse and laid there like that for the longest time. He looked like a rag doll he was so limp. This heat sure is taking a toll on my birds and squirrels (and me too!) Supposed to be 104 degrees today, and 105 degrees tomorrow, but then they say we'll get some relief on Sunday. I can't wait! No rain in sight though. :-(

It's been a tough summer weather-wise for ALL God's creatures including us, so far, Nita! Thanks for sharing the situation where you are!

I hope you have dishes of water out for these little guys to partake as well as birds. When its hot like this, they need our help even more. Be kind, make sure you have a dish of water out for them in the shade.

Thanks for your concern Alleyoops! Yes, I have a pan of water out by the compost pile for them, and I have two birdbaths that I change twice daily, so they are taken care of. I also feed them peanuts and sunflower seeds. In this heat though, there is no way I can keep them cool. The birds are suffering too.

Nita, have you seen those mister thingies? They spray a very fine mist which evaporates quickly, and don't use a lot of water, and in the meantime they dramatically lower the ambient temperature. I don't know if you could use one here, given the drought, but I thought I'd mention it if you can. The other thing is to freeze a few pots or pans of water, maybe with some seeds embedded in the ice, then set them out. They won't last long, but hey, every little bit helps.

Hang in there. I wish I could send cool air your way.

Thank you EndlessHorizon for commenting. I have heard of those things, but I'm spending so much money on watering all my gardens daily that I don't think I can use any extra water for that. They will just have to use the birdbaths and pan I have put out for them. I do like the the ice idea though, and I might give that a try. Surely they would appreciate some nice cold seeds embedded in ice.

I'm trying to hang in there, but it's getting more and more difficult everyday. The weather guys say it's supposed to cool off starting Sunday, so I hope they are right. No rain in sight though, and that's what we really need. We are in dire straights! Trees are dying all over town from lack of rain. It's really a sad situation!

Excellent shot Nita, this poor baby's HOT!
Ours critters and birds have been very lethargic too; hopefully things should improve by about Monday for us.

Thanks Kevin! I thought about doing that, but as hot as it is here, it would only last for a very short time.
