As a Florida resident, this reminds me why I don't like our afternoon storms and the lightning that comes with them. Gives me the shivers. (but it's a fantastic shot!!!!)

I also would like to add that this is called a positive lightning strike. This is the kind of lightning that kills people because it strikes away from the storm where people are not taking cover.

I use a tripod and I set the camera to manual. I then choose a shutter speed and aperture according to the light conditions. the darker it is the longer my shutter speed and wider my aperture. Thanks for asking Milnei.

Excellent series! What's your technique? Frame capture from a movie, or 100s of stills in long rapid burst mode??

About Nastynathan

Nastynathan

I have been into photographing lightning since 1993 and also love astrophotography I will take off work for a good meteor shower. Can't wait for the next Hale Bopp. I also love photgraphing birds and bugs and the past twelve months I have also rediscovered air show photography. People always ask if I sell my photos or if that's my job..I do it for myself and feel rewarded if others like my photos.
