Flows Two Ways

Uploaded by: Kennebunker

Kennebunk, ME (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Tidal rivers are unique in that there is always the central stream of fresh water heading into the ocean, and on the outgoing tide, the salt water runs back out as well. On the incoming tide, though, you can see the salt water flowing up stream while the fresh continues to flow down.

A very nice picture and the information about the river. I wonder if there is a difference in winter, as fresh water freezes faster than salt water.

Thanks for the info - us "desert rats" don't know much about tides...unless it is in the washing machine.....

Thanks for the notice, Delana, Heidrun and Wanda. This is indeed a very special place; I have passed this way most days on my daily walk for the last 28 years.

Love the jagged lines of the land and also how they are repeated in the flow of the water !
Thank you, also, for your great information !
