The skies were cloudy, but that hardly ever stops me from snapping pics of some of my favorite things. This witch hazel tree is in full bloom, pushing off last season's old leaves, and sending forth such a heavenly fragrance. The ground beneath the tree was covered with an icy foot of melted, and refrozen snow.

Thanks for looking, Kat and Dorothy. This is indeed the same plant from which the astringent is produced. It is a bit of an oddity in that the fruit from last year's flower, as well as last year's leaves, are still on the tree when these miniature explosions of bloom burst out in the very earliest days of the spring season.
