Portland Head Light is on a peninsula, so I've only visited from the land before. Today we were on the mailboat run in Casco Bay, and as a treat, the captain decided to swing out further into the harbor before heading in to dock, giving us all a great view of the famous lighthouse from the waterside. Whoo Hoo!

Thanks so much for looking along with me, Elaine, Kristina, Donna and Mary. This is the oldest continually operating lighthouse in the US, commissioned by George Washington. Like most lighthouses here in New England, it was built from rubble stone - and it lasts!
