The old 'tower house' or castle of the Kapetanakis family stands guard over the tiny village of Charavgi in the outer Mani. It commands a wonderful view down to the Messinian Gulf although this would not have been the prime motivation of the original builders whose ambition was, no doubt, to make an impregnable fortress. These days the romantic ruins are rarely visited although one of the original inhabitants has left his bones mouldering in a concrete sarcophagus on the site. This view, from Charavgi, shows the anemones that colour the olive groves in early spring in this part of Greece. Kalo minas is the traditional greeting on the first of the month. It is a wish for you to 'Have a good month'.

About Granddad
Granddad We are English, (except our dogs, who are definitely very Greek, having been abandoned strays who took us in out of the kindness of their hearts). We retired to Greece in 2003 to escape the phoney political correctness endemic throughout the Anglo-Saxon world and to mix with some real people again. We live in the Exo-Mani in the extreme South of the Peloponnesus, where the sea and countryside are beautiful and the weather is also less political (i.e. they don't tax sunshine yet). The site provides an opportunity for us to bore the whole world with our snapshots and for which we are duly grateful.
