Thank you! They were considered endangered because of over-hunting, so hunting was forbidden here. They're making a comeback. I see small flocks in the Santa Ritas, too. I had never seen the brilliance of color like this on these birds, though, so I was totally amazed.

Quoting ChrisAnthemum:
People hunt them here; maybe that's why I can never get close enough to take a shot like this. Great closeup of these magnificent birds, Pat!

About DesertNomad

DesertNomad

Thanking all of you for comments on my photos, I imagine you won't see it. So I want to thank you profusely here, where you will, for all your wonderful comments and support. Most of my work is found under the name Pat Goltz (with or without space) on various art sites. I have been doing art seriously for over ten years. In addition to photography, I do digital art, including fractals, abstracts, Hubisms, and digital landscapes. For fractals, I use Ultrafractal, Xenodream, or Apophysis. Most of my landscapes are done in Terragen. A Hubism is a type of abstract that is done in Bryce or Vue d'Esprit. In photography, I do mostly nature, including landscapes, flowers, birds, insects, and other subjects, as well as urban photography. I like to provide beauty, and my photography is for people who cannot go where I go, so that they may enjoy the beauty. Soli Deo Gloria.
