Above Pilot Mountain, no sign of smoke or flames today. I have been unable to find any online updates more recent than the town meeting I attended 24 hours ago, but the fire appears to be out this afternoon and evening. Taken from the entrance to the park, which remains closed.

Hopefully the fire's completely under control, since you aren't even seeing smoke anymore!
Beautiful silhouette and color here!

Thank you, Jim; I couldn't help thinking of the purple mountain majesties. Would probably have chosen that as a title if this picture hadn't been part of a series where I was trying to document something.

Thank you, Gene and Dave, for your comments! According to this morning's paper (Wednesday), firemen were just mopping up hot spots as of Tuesday night. There is still a strong charred smell when you drive anywhere in the vicinity.

Glad the fire is out. Maybe it won't take long to rebuild the safety rail etc to re-open the park.

Thanks for your comment, Charlotte! They say maybe a week to 10 days until the park reopens to visitors, but it will be spring at the soonest before we know how the vegetation recovers.
