All day we've had fierce winds and heavy clouds from Hurricane Sandy, but very little rain and no damage. For awhile this afternoon, a spate of these weird mammatus clouds came over, moving very fast, generally a sign of violent, turbulent weather and often accompanied by hail. Fortunately, that didn't happen for us. Looks like black and white, but is in natural color. Black specks are flying leaves.

Thank you, Steve and Donna! We've been getting a few pellets of sleet this evening, but it isn't cold enough for snow. Weird weather, though!

These mammatus cloud resemble quilt batting! Truly amazing weather we're having here in west-central Ohio, too. Right now we're getting northeastern galeforce wind-driven ice pellets! What a storm! I just love all these storm photos you've taken; thank you so much for sharing! Julie in Ohio

Fantastic sky, and great series. Hope you still have some color in the trees, once this storm has passed.

Thank you, Lizzie, but I'm afraid the leaves are pretty much gone this morning (Tuesday). The ones that are left have had the color whipped out of them, they were so buffeted and bruised.

Thanks for adding your comment, Julie! I was a bit surprised to see how far west the hurricane impacted the weather.
