"MY" poor little upside down ice cream cone sure doesn't look like it did years ago that's for sure. I always wanted to see Spirit Lake when I lived out there but never did.

You got that right, June! No more Mt-Fuji-of-Washington. Spirit Lake still exists, but not the size, shape, or color it used to be. And there are still hundreds of logs from the initial blow-down floating in it.

I lived there when it blew. Sure doesn't seem like it has been as many years as it has been. (I lived in Moses Lake.)

Wonderful photo. I lived in Western Montana, but was in Spokane the day it happened. We were leaving when first knew about it. We hurried out of there, and stayed half hour ahead of Total Darkness til we got home. Very gritty teeth from the Ash.

Thanks for your kind words! And thanks, WU, for my first AC. I was beginning to think it was impossible for me.

I lived near Portland when it blew in 1980, so we were on the fringe of the ash fall, with about 1/4" on May 18 and several dustings in the following months. Now I'm about 35 miles away and never get tired of looking at it.

Congratulations Briar! Keep getting out on the sunny days! Mr. PSP and I were caught on I-90 near Vantage in one of the subsequent eruptions and what an experience that was! Driving in the middle of a black, swirling, cloud, worrying that the ash would clog our engine and trying to beat the closure of the Pass. Exciting times! And a beautiful mountain remains as you have shown.

About BriarCraft
BriarCraft "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." That's why I left San Diego after 17 years of the best weather in the world to return to the Pacific Northwest. What takes my breath away are the seasonal changes and growing things and nature. From one corner of my 4 acre hobby farm, I can see Mt. St. Helens. Just down the road I can also see Mt. Rainier.I have lived and gardened in Chula Vista, CA, and 20 miles south of Portland, OR. Now I live and garden 70 miles north of Portland. The frost-free growing season here is mid-May to mid-October most years. My garden measures 30' x 75'.
