Saturday - Winds gusting over 50 mph will continue, particularly early in the day over coastal eastern New England from Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard, northward, including Boston and Portland, Maine.  Additional power outages and downed trees are possible before winds subside completely Saturday night.

Here are some general rules of thumb regarding wind speed thresholds and damage:

  • 50-55 mph+:  Power outages can begin, tree limbs and shallow-rooted trees can be pushed over.
  • 70 mph+:  Damage to buildings begins, including chimneys, roofs, windows broken.  Mobile homes can be overturned

These high winds will also give rise to a significant threat from coastal flooding.
