Prepare for Slick Travel

The next winter storm will bring icy, dangerous travel conditions to the Midwest this weekend and possibly the Northeast on Monday.

Setup this Weekend

The past week's cold air invasion is setting the stage for this latest winter storm.

As an upper disturbance ejects out of the southwestern states, it will run into southerly winds on the backside of a high-pressure system centered over the Eastern Seaboard. This southerly wind flow will drive moist, milder air northward and over the top of the leftover cold air mass.

Sleet and freezing rain: What's the difference?

The end result will be a mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow starting in the Midwest on Sunday and then moving into the Northeast to start the new week.

Let's begin our look at the forecast for Winter Storm Luna each day beginning with Sunday next.
