Coastal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 3:33 PM EDT on September 02, 2010
... Coastal Flood Advisory now in effect until 6 am EDT Friday... ... Coastal Flood Watch is cancelled... The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has cancelled the coastal Flood Watch. The coastal Flood Advisory is now in effect until 6 am EDT Friday. Southeast winds and lowering pressure in association with Hurricane Earl will allow water levels to increase to 1 to 2 feet above normal by tonight. These departures are expected to produce minor tidal flooding during times of high tide tonight. Then... as Hurricane Earl moves away from the Delmarva on Friday... winds will switch to the north and will allow water levels to rapidly decrease. This will bring the possibility of blow out tides on Friday. The speed and proximity to land of Hurricane Earl will be key in how high water levels get. Here are the times of the next high tides for a few locations from north to south... on the Chesapeake Bay... Havre de Grace... 4:25 PM and 5:26 am... Bowley Bar... 3:04 am... Fort McHenry Baltimore... 2:13 am... Annapolis U.S. Naval Academy... 12:43 am... Chesapeake Beach... 11:26 PM... Solomons Island... 9:35 PM... Point Lookout... 8:45 PM... Now along the Potomac River... Washington Channel... 3:08 am... Alexandria... 3:26 am... Indian Head... 2:54 am... Aquia creek... 1:40 am... Goose Bay... 11:00 PM... Coltons Point... 9:50 PM... A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
