Special Statement
Statement as of 5:50 AM AKDT on August 28, 2015

... Moderate to heavy rain continuing for the southern and central
Panhandle through Saturday...

A stalled front continues to provide a focus for moderate to heavy
rain mainly over the southern Panhandle. Amounts of 2 to 4 inches
will fall in areas from Petersburg south. With strong winds
occuring today through the southern Inner Channels in addition to
heavy rainfall... mudslides are possible. Streams and rivers will
continue to rise across the southern Panhandle... but at this time
no flooding is expected.

Amounts across the Juneau area will be much lighter of between 1
and 2 inches. However... basins are much more saturated over the
north... and thus rivers and lakes may approach bankful at times
through Saturday.

... Another round of rain and wind late Friday and Saturday...

A potent low pressure system and associated weather front will move
into the Panhandle late Friday and into Saturday. This will bring
another period of moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds to
Southeast Alaska. Total rainfall amounts will range from 1 to 3
inches. Southerly winds will increase Friday night and Saturday
with gusts of 30 to 45 mph over much of the area. Winds are
expected to begin to subside later Saturday and Sunday.

Moderate to heavy rainfall combined with strong winds will result
in an increased risk of mudslides. Area rivers... creeks and streams
will also rise as a result. Antecedent conditions combined with
significant rainfall could result in minor flooding.
