Beach Hazard Statement
Statement as of 2:11 AM PDT on May 23, 2015

... Beach hazards statement in effect from Sunday morning through
Monday evening...

The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a beach
hazards statement for strong rip and longshore currents... which
is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday evening.

* Waves and surf... building to 3 to 5 feet on south-facing
beaches... with sets to 6 feet at favored locations. Lower surf
along west-facing beaches of San Diego County.

* Timing... swell and surf increasing Sunday morning... peaking
Monday morning and beginning to subside Monday evening.

* Impacts... dangerous swimming conditions. People in the surf zone
may be swept off their feet and injured or pulled out to sea.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as strong
rip currents... elevated surf heights... minor tidal overflow... or
lightning are possible at local beaches. Obey posted warning
signs and flags and talk to a lifeguard before swimming. Use
caution when in or near the water and always swim near a
lifeguard.
