* at 256 PM CDT... a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a
tornado was located 8 miles northeast of Herndon... or 13 miles
northwest of Oberlin... moving northeast at 15 mph.

Hazard... tornado.

Source... radar indicated rotation.

Impact... flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
           shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
           Damage to roofs... windows and vehicles will occur. Tree

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
northwest Kansas
southwest Nebraska

* effective this Tuesday afternoon and evening from 130 PM until
900 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include...
isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible
isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

Summary... scattered thunderstorms will continue to develop over the
watch area and track slowly southeastward through the afternoon.
Strong instability will promote a risk of gusty winds and hail in
the stronger cells.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 60
statute miles east and west of a line from 20 miles west
northwest of McCook Nebraska to 70 miles south of Hill City
