Watches & Warnings

Blizzard Warning
Issued: 1:21 PM CST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST this
evening...

* short term trends... whiteout conditions with zero visibility
will continue this afternoon... especially in rural open areas.

* Storm total snow accumulations... little in the way of new
accumulation is anticipated.

* Winds/visibility... northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts as
high as 50 mph.. visibilities around zero can be expected...
particularly in open areas and during heavier snow showers.

* Impacts... travel is not advised in many areas due to
considerable blowing snow and restricted visibilities. Numerous
accidents have been reported along Interstate 35 between Ames
and the Minnesota border. Drifting snow will also cause slick
icy roads and dangerous travel... especially in areas that are
open or unprotected. Conditions may change rapidly... even across
individual counties. Winds of this magnitude may also affect
driving of low profile vehicles and loose light weight objects.

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must travel... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.
