Watches & Warnings

Coastal Flood Warning
Issued: 3:12 PM EST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Warning now in effect until 11 am EST Tuesday...

* location... the usual vulnerable areas along the ocean side of
Hatteras Island vulnerable to ocean overwash and erosion from
large swell.

* Coastal flooding... ocean overwash is the main concern around the
times of high tide this evening and Tuesday morning. Large
swells impacting the beaches could produce erosion and ocean
overwash. Water could briefly cover portions of Highway 12 in
the usual areas susceptible to ocean overwash from large
swells.

* Timing... this evening and again Tuesday morning around the times
of high tide. High tide occurs around 745 PM this evening and 8 am
Tuesday.

* Impacts... ocean overwash and beach erosion

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.
