Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 4:21 PM PST on November 25, 2009
... Flood Watch in effect from 4 am PST Thursday through Friday
morning...
The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a
* Flood Watch for portions of western Washington... including the
following counties... Grays Harbor... Skagit... Whatcom... King...
Lewis... Mason... Pierce... Snohomish... Thurston.
* From 4 am PST Thursday through Friday morning
* moderate to heavy rain in the Olympics tonight through Thursday
night could drive some rivers to flood stage. The Skokomish
River in Mason County is the river most likely to rise above
flood stage during the watch period. The Satsop is also expected
to experience a significant rise and crest near flood stage
Thursday evening as well.
* Several generally flood prone rivers draining off the Cascades
are also at risk of reaching flood stage as a result of the
rain. This includes the Nooksack... Skagit... stillaguamish near
Arlington... Snoqualmie near Carnation... Puyallup at Orting and
the lower reaches of the Chehalis river. Each of these rivers
are currently forecast to crest near flood stage.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on the
current forecasts. Those living in areas prone to flooding should
be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
Monitor forecasts from the National Weather Service for the latest
updates or warnings.
