Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Sunday, February 19, 2012.

Active weather in the Southeast spread into the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday as low pressure from the central Gulf Coast pushed east-northeastward off the Southeast coast and into the nearby Atlantic waters. Meanwhile, the trough of low pressure associated with this system slid from the Tennessee Valley into the Carolinas. This allowed for colder air to spread into the eastern Tennessee Valley and the Mid-Atlantic and set the stage for mixed precipitation in the region. Rain showers, bands of moderate to heavy snow, and pockets of sleet formed in the eastern regions of Tennessee and Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina through the afternoon. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories remained in effect for these areas. Meanwhile, flood concerns persist along the central Gulf Coast due to recent significant rainfall.

In the West, a cold front and trough of low pressure moved though parts of the Intermountain West and Southwest. Moist, southwest flow accompanies this system and triggers snow to form and spread across parts of Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming this afternoon. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories remained in effect for parts of Utah Colorado, northern New Mexico, and Wyoming.
