A large band of showers and thunderstorms will continue to move northeast at 40 mph across portions of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles through the late morning hours. Through 11 am...the band of showers and storms will extend from Hereford northeastward to Beaver Oklahoma. Some localized flooding of low lying areas could occur as the storms continue to move over much of the same areas. Some of the communities to be affected through 11 am include canyon...Amarillo...Borger...Stinnett...Spearman...Perryton...and Beaver Oklahoma. Some storms may be strong with winds gusting to near 40 mph. Otherwise...heavy rainfall will be the primary threat. Rainfall rates of up to one inch per hour will occur with the strongest storms along with dangerous lightning. Tropical moisture from the Pacific is being pulled over the area as very strong southwesterly flow continues. A disturbance to the west will approach and maintain the moist flow throughout the day. The chances for additional rainfall will remain high with the potential for heavy rainfall. Persons traveling across the panhandles this morning should use caution and be alert to ponding of water on roadways.

Rainfall reports of 1 to 3 inches have been reported so far in eastern Texas County and Hansford County... with radar estimated rainfall amounts of 2.5 to 3.5 inches in an area from Hardesty to Gruver.
