Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Wednesday, February 08, 2012.

More wet and active weather continued in the East on Wednesday as a low pressure system from the Tennessee Valley moved east through the Mid-Atlantic. The system produced light to moderate snow showers in parts of the Ohio Valley and the Central Appalachians and a mix of rain and snow in the Mid-Atlantic. Up to one inch of snow was expected in the Washington, D.C. area today, while higher snow totals of up to 4 inches were expected in the high terrain of eastern West Virginia., western Maryland, and south central Pennsylvania. Elsewhere in the East, isolated showers formed in the southern tip of Texas and in parts of south Florida.

In the West, a weak disturbance moved over western Oregon and Washington during the morning and a weak warm front lifted slowly northward across the region during the afternoon. These systems brought some very light rain to the region ranging from a trace in some interior valleys to a tenth of an inch along the coast. Meanwhile, energy from the Northwest began to spread southeastward into the Central Great Basin this afternoon, creating chances for a few inches of snow in the mountains late this afternoon with some light rain and snow showers possible over the lower valleys.

... storm survey of Snook tornado on 2/3/12...

National Weather Service meteorologist surveyed damage in and near
Snook, Texas in Burleson County with the County emc and an official
from Texas departement of emergency management. Two seperate tornado
paths were found along with an area of straight line wind damage
probably produced by the rear flank downdraft.

Tornado #1... the first tornado touched down at approximately 643pm
in the southeast portion of Snook. The path length of the tornado
was approximately .8 of a mile and the width of the damage was .3 of
a mile. The tornado was rated a EF-1 with estimated winds between 90
and 100 mph. Numerous trees were damaged with several trees uprooted
near the center of the damage.

Straight line wind damage... straight line wind damage from the rear
flank downdraft produced winds of 90 to 100 mph or equivalent to an
EF-1 tornado. A large barn was destroyed by the winds along with
numerous trees damaged. A roof on one house was actually lifted up
off the frame and then set back down. This damage occurred in an
area south of the tornado #1.

Tornado #2... the same supercell that produced tornado #1 continued
moving to the east northeast and produced a second tornado
approximately 2 miles east of tornado #1. This tornado hit a private
company and a fedex facility located on Highway 50. Major damage was
done to a large metal building at the private company in addition to
destroying a smaller metal building. Damage was also done to the
fedex facility. Several of the fedex trailers were tossed across a
County Road into a Pecan tree Orchard. This tornado was on the
ground for approximately 1/2 mile and the width of the damage path
was 1/8 of a mile. The tornado was rated as an EF-2 with wind speeds
of 110-120 mph.

This storm survey is an update to previous local storm reports that
were issued earlier by this office.
