Through 730 PM... showers and thunderstorms are moving across the area. The heaviest of these storms were located in Chickasaw... Prentiss...Lee...and Itawamba counties in eastern Mississippi. These storms are moving south at near 20 mph. Some smaller storms were located over Shelby...Haywood...Lauderdale...and Tipton counties in west Tennessee and moving south at near 10 mph. The main threats will all of these storms are heavy rainfall...frequent cloud to ground lightning... and gusty winds.

At 700 PM CDT... Shelby County emergency management officials reported water covering the intersection of Spottswood drive and crossover Lane in Midtown Memphis. Showers and thunderstorms will produce an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain over the next hour.
Locations in the warning include but are not limited to Olive Branch... Germantown and Midtown Memphis.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
.Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams... urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
.Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
.Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

* Heat index readings: 103 to 108 degrees.
* Timing: through 8 PM this evening.
* Impacts: increased potential for heat illnesses with prolonged outdoor activity.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
