Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, November 30, 2009.

The Eastern US will kick off the work-week with significant weather activity as a long and powerful front treks toward the East Coast on Monday. The front will stretch from the Northeast through the western portion of the Gulf of Mexico. Plenty of gulf moisture and energy along the tail end of the system will fuel persistent showers, heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms from Texas through the Tennessee Valley. By the afternoon, another disturbance will take shape along the tail of the front, just off the coast of southeastern Texas. This new disturbance will aid in drenching southeastern Texas and Louisiana with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms during Monday and Tuesday. Meanwhile, the northern half of the front will spark areas of lighter precipitation in the northeastern quadrant of the nation. A drastic drop in temperatures will also accompany the front as it passes.

Out West, strengthening high pressure will produce another day of mild and dry weather conditions throughout the majority of the Northwest, Central Great Basin, and northern California. A few areas of precipitation may develop in northern Washington, while cool temperatures are expected in southern California and the Southwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of -8 degrees at West Yellowstone, Montana to a high of 87 degrees at McAllen, Texas.

Hurricane season draws to a close

It's November 30, and the inconsequential Atlantic hurricane season of 2009 is in the books. Residents all along the Atlantic coast can give thanks for this year's much-needed respite after the pummeling Mother Nature gave last year.
