Weather Underground midday recap for Thursday, December 03, 2009.
The Northeast saw wet weather decrease on Thursday as an intense low pressure system moved off the coast into the North Atlantic Ocean. The storm left lingering cloud cover in the Great Lakes and west of the Appalachians, but skies cleared out along the coast for the most part. Aside from a few showers and snow showers in the Mid-West, precipitation was absent from the region.
Another area of disturbed weather popped up over northern Texas, bringing snow and rain to the far northern portion of the state and parts of New Mexico. Precipitation was relatively light, and only light snow accumulations were reported.
For most of the Plains and West, high pressure brought generally clear skies. Some regions saw frigid temperatures into the afternoon with highs topping out in the teens in many locations throughout the Northern Tier States.
Temperatures were cool in the Northwest as well with some locations reporting temperatures 5-10 degrees below normal.
California was spared from the chilly weather, though temperatures in the region generally ran a few degrees lower than normal for early December.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Thursday have ranged from a morning low of -20 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo. to a midday high of 95 degrees at Boca Raton, Fla.

Did you know that...
This time of year would be a bad time to be without electricity in the Northeast. Yet, on this date in 1964, a big ice storm hit New England leaving some places with ice one and a half inches thick. This caused 80,000 homes to be without power for many days.
