Warnings and Notices
Coastal Flood Warning
Statement as of 2:50 PM EST on November 12, 2009
... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 PM EST
Friday...
A coastal Flood Warning remains in effect until 11 PM EST Friday.
With high pressure to our north and low pressure to our south...
a strong and persistent northeast flow is expected over the mid
Atlantic region into the weekend. As a result... tidal departures
will continue to increase. Widespread minor tidal flooding is
expected around the times of high tide through tonight... with
spotty moderate flooding tonight and more widespread moderate
flooding Friday.
The strong onshore flow will not allow water to drain from the
Chesapeake Bay. Each oncoming tide cycle will see higher tide
levels through Friday.
For Cambridge Maryland... high tide occurs at 1221 am with a
forecast height around 3.5 feet MLLW. For Friday afternoon... the
high tide is at 115 PM with a forecast height of 3.5 to 4 feet
MLLW.
Conditions are forecast to improve gradually over the weekend.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water and take appropriate action to protect life and
property.
Do not park your vehicle in a location that is prone to tidal
flooding. Also... avoid roadways that are prone to tidal
flooding.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and beach erosion.
