The Flood Warning continues for
the Chikaskia river near Corbin.
* From this evening until Monday afternoon.
* At 8:16 PM Saturday the stage was 9.9 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by this evening and continue to
rise to near 13.2 feet by Sunday morning. The river will fall below
flood stage by Monday morning.
* Impact... at 13.0 feet... left bank overflows extend out to about 100
yards. Low water bridge, 3 miles downstream from gage site, floods.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flood Warning for small streams in...
Cowley County in south central Kansas...
Sumner County in south central Kansas...

* until 130 PM CDT Sunday

* at 736 PM CDT... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that heavy rain was falling over the area. That heavy rain will
cause flooding. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Arkansas City... Winfield... Wellington... Caldwell... Oxford...
Argonia... South Haven... Dexter... Geuda Springs... Mayfield...
Milan... Hunnewell... Perth... Maple City and Strother Field Airport.

Flood waters are moving down the Chikaskia river in Sumner County.
In addition... Slate Creek near Wellington is expected to rise above
flood stage this evening. Flood waters may begin to cover low-lying
spots southeast of Wellington as well as Woods Park within the city.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through Sunday afternoon...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of central Kansas and south central Kansas...
including the following areas... in central Kansas... Chase and
Marion. In south central Kansas... Butler... Cowley... Harvey...
Sedgwick and Sumner.

* Through Sunday afternoon.

* Another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible late
tonight into Sunday. Storm total rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches
is expected in the watch area. With grounds already
saturated... any additional rainfall will go into runoff and will
likely result in flooding. Main-Stem rivers will likely
experience significant rises with a few going into flood.

* Those with outdoor plans along creeks and rivers need to
monitor the weather situation closely this weekend.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Remember to turn around... don't drown.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
