Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, May 26, 2012.

The main weather feature over the nation will be a low pressure system moving off the Rockies and into the Plains on Saturday. Flow around this system continues pushing a warm front eastward, over the Plains and through the Midwest. Expect widespread showers and thunderstorms to develop along this frontal boundary, from the Northern and Central Plains through the Great Lakes. Some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Severe thunderstorms are most likely over Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. By Saturday evening, the tail end of this system will reach the Northeast, bringing lighter and more widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region.

The back side of this broad low pressure system will continue pulling cool air in from Canada. This will allow for rain showers to turn to snow showers at the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies, Intermountain West, and Central Rockies. At the same time, strong and gusty winds will persist for the southern side of this system. In combination with warm and dry conditions, this will maintain high fire danger for the Southwest and Southern Rockies.

In the Southeast, expect more shower and thunderstorm activity over Florida and the Carolinas as an area of low pressure lingers just offshore. Some areas may see severe thunderstorm development with gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

... Unseasonably warm temperatures expected for the Holiday weekend...

A strong high pressure system will build into the Ohio Valley
over the weekend. This will bring the first heat wave of the
season to the region... with near record temperatures expected both
Saturday and Sunday. Highs on Saturday will climb into the lower
90s... warming into the middle 90s for Sunday afternoon. Highs on
Monday will generally be in the lower 90s. The warm temperatures
will combine with the humidity to produce heat indices in the mid
90s each afternoon.

Those planning to spend time outdoors this weekend should take
extra care to avoid sunburn and dehydration.
