Nowcast | as of 5:50 am EST on March 1, 2015

Through late morning...scattered light to moderate rain showers over the Atlantic will continue to push onshore east central Florida. Rainfall totals will remain generally light...with less than a tenth of an inch expected. Today...adequate moisture...daytime heating...and low level east to southeast flow will allow for scattered showers across the interior. A few lightning storms may develop in the late afternoon. Windy conditions over the coastal waters of the Atlantic will keep boating conditions hazardous. A Small Craft Advisory continues across the near shore waters this morning and the offshore waters into the evening hours. These strong winds and rough seas will also make for dangerous conditions at area beaches. A high risk of rip currents is expected...so beachgoers should refrain from entering the rough surf. Coastal Hazard Statement
Statement as of 4:20 AM EST on March 01, 2015

... High rip current risk in effect through this evening...

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a high rip
current risk... which is in effect through this evening.

* Timing... east swells will produce a high risk of rip currents
which will be enhanced near the time of low tide from late
morning into the early afternoon.

* Impacts... rough surf and dangerous rip currents are expected at
east central Florida beaches today posing a hazard to swimmers.
If caught in a rip current... swim parallel to the beach until
out of the pull of the current and then swim back to shore.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards and the beach patrol. Pay
attention to flags and posted signs.
