... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight MDT tonight...
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until midnight MDT tonight.
* Timing... snow will continue through early this evening... with the heaviest snowfall east of the Continental Divide. Snowfall will gradually diminish from north to south overnight tonight.
* Accumulation/wind... total snow accumulations will vary across the area with the heaviest snowfall of 14 to 22 inches east of The Divide in the Front Range foothills and along east facing mountain slopes where snowfall rates of 2 inches per hour will be possible at times. Much less snow will fall in other mountain areas west of the Continental Divide with totals ranging from as little as 4 inches in lower areas to around 6 to 10 inches over higher elevations.
* Main impact... roads and highways... including Interstate 70... will become icy... slushy and even snow packed in the areas of heavier snow. Visibilities may be reduced to one quarter mile or less during periods of heavy snowfall. Travelers should be aware that mountain passes may require chains or adequate snow tires as well as I-70 in the foothills west of Denver.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Remember... a Winter Storm Warning means hazardous winter weather conditions are imminent or highly likely. Significant snow accumulations are occurring or expected. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
