Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 25, 2012.

Expect more active weather to develop across the Great Lakes on Friday, as a low pressure system moves from the Upper Midwest into eastern Canada. This system will push a cold front over the Great Lakes and Midwest, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. There is a slight chance that some of these storms will turn severe with strong winds and large hail. Rainfall totals will range from 1 to 2 inches, with over 2 inches likely in areas of severe weather development.

Behind this activity in the West, a low pressure system will move over the Great Basin and into the Southern Rockies. Flow around this system will produce cooler temperatures across the West, while also triggering scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest, northern California, and Intermountain West. Snow showers may develop again across the highest elevations of the Northern Rockies.

Meanwhile in the East, high pressure builds from the Plains, over the Mississippi River Valley, and into the Eastern US. This will keep moisture away to the north, allowing for dry, sunny, and warm conditions. High temperatures will range in the 80s and 90s from the Central Plains through the Eastern Valleys, with parts of the Southern US reaching into the lower 100s.

Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 2:39 AM PDT on May 25, 2012

... Light snow accumulations possible in the Sierra tonight
and Saturday morning...

An unseasonably cold low pressure system is moving south into the
Sierra today. This storm will produce snow across Mono County
this afternoon and overnight.

By early Saturday morning... snowfall totals up to a few inches are
possible above 7500 feet mainly west of Highway 395... with 1 to 2
inches between 6500 and 7000 feet.

Light snow may accumulate on Road surfaces this evening over
higher elevations of the Sierra including Sonora and Tioga passes.
By overnight... some light accumulations of snow or slush are
possible on portions of Highway 395 above 6500 feet.

Although heavy snow accumulations are not expected... anyone
planning travel in the Sierra tonight or Saturday morning
should slow down and prepare for chain restrictions and possible
delays.

... Light snow accumulations possible in the Sierra Friday night
and Saturday morning...

An unseasonably cold low pressure system will move south into the
Sierra Friday. This storm will produce bands of snow showers
across Mono County Friday afternoon and Friday night.

By early Saturday morning... snowfall totals up to 4 inches are
possible above 7500 feet mainly west of Highway 395... with up to 2
inches between 6500 and 7000 feet.

Snow may accumulate on Road surfaces by late Friday afternoon
over higher elevations of the Sierra including Sonora and Tioga
passes. By Friday night... some light accumulations of snow or slush
are possible on portions of Highway 395 above 6500 feet.

Although heavy snow accumulations are not expected... anyone
planning travel in the Sierra Friday night or Saturday morning
should slow down and prepare for chain restrictions and possible
delays.
