Through 4 PM...showers and thunderstorms are forecast to increase in coverage while moving generally eastward at 10 to 15 mph. In addition to locally heavy rains...other threats in and near afternoon thunderstorms will be frequent lightning...brief strong wind gusts from 35 to 45 mph and small hail. A few storms could briefly become severe with damaging straight line winds in excess of 60 mph being the main threat in these. If outdoors today and you hear thunder...be prepared to move to a place of shelter quickly as lightning can be a threat to your safety even if the thunderstorm is many miles away from your location.
