Special Statement
Statement as of 2:30 PM AKST on February 26, 2015

... Powerful storm to impact the eastern interior Saturday night...

A strong cold front with gusty winds and blowing snow is expected
to move east across interior Saturday and Saturday night. Strong
winds... snow and blowing snow are expected to spread across the
eastern interior Saturday night. West winds of 20 mph gusting 40
mph will combine with 4 inches of snow to cause significant
blowing and drifting snow.

Blizzard conditions could occur above tree line and affect
summits along the Dalton... Elliot and Steese highways. Winds this
strong could cause trees to blow down and power line damage in the
Fairbanks area.

There is still uncertainty about the timing of this storm... but
it appears likely that strong winds will occur sometime Saturday
night. People venturing into the back country such as the White
Mountains should be aware that very deep snow drifts are likely to
form Saturday night.

This cold front could cause winds as strong as the winter storm
that occurred in December of 2013.

Conditions are expected to improve on Sunday.
