A major storm is forecast to develop over the northern Bering Sea Monday and move north over the Chukchi Sea Tuesday.

If the storm strengthens as forecast...widespread gale force winds will develop over the northern Bering Sea and coastal waters from the Yukon Delta to Cape Lisburne on Monday, and spread to the western Arctic coast waters Monday night. Storm force winds are possible late Monday night through Tuesday from Norton Sound north to Cape Lisburne.

High waves will develop Monday night and Tuesday over the northern Bering Sea...Norton Sound and the Chukchi Sea.

Small boats should head for port.

Over Norton Sound...strong southwest winds forecast for Monday night and Tuesday will generate heavy surf and a rise in water level along the coast.

Along the Chukchi Sea coast north of Cape Krusenstern...strong southwest winds forecast for Tuesday will generate heavy surf and a sharp rise in water level along the coast. This could impact Kivalina and Point Hope.

The next marine weather statement is scheduled for 10 PM sun or sooner if needed.
