Caption: The only reason this water is still open instead of frozen over is because it's a series of fast flowing rapids.

I really like how you've caught the light and shadow, replicating the dark water and dazzling snow. My first footfall in America was in St Louis, many years ago. Eh, it was a very hot summer's day. Hope the weather improves soon for y'all.

Karen and Heidrun, if I lived anywhere else and heard about these temps I'd wonder how (and why!) on earth do people live in that climate too?!! :D I don't like it at all when it's this ghastly cold but the summers are worth it. I just wish I could be a snowbird and head south for the winters. :D

Thanks for your note, Gary. I haven't been back down there since we had days and days of -40 below zero weather and not even above zero during the day but I wouldn't be surprised if this is completely frozen over now. What's really neat is to see waterfalls frozen over with clear ice and be able to see the water flowing behind the ice!!

Thanks for your note, Peg! It actually was a very warm day--30º above zero!--compared to the -30+ below zero days we've had ever since then. We could use a little of your Florida warmth. :-)

About minnesotamom

Hi! My name is Kathy and I live in northern Minnesota, USA, where the winter temps have dipped down to -60º below zero F. The summers used to be mild but in recent years have been up in the 90ºs. I love being able to travel the world from my office chair, through all your great photos! I've learned tons about photography and editing photos thanks to all the great people on here and their willingness to share tips. Thank you to all you Wunderfriends who take time to look and leave notes---I deeply appreciate it. :-)
