Danville, VA (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Not sure what is going on with this beautiful butterfly - strange position - perhaps attacked by a predator? They try to keep predators out - Perhaps it is because the worker that was so dedicated to that is not longer there. At any rate, Not sure what is goind on with it.

When the new butterfly escapes from the chrysalis it has only a limited time to pump up its wings before the chitin hardens. Sometimes the new creature falls from its perch and is unable to finish the pumping process and a distorted form results. I think this is what you have.

Maybe it just emerged and is still "pumping up" it's wings?
