Earlier in the day, the mother left the nest and tried to lead us away. She returned to the nest as soon as we drove on. In the afternoon, she sat quietly and the male did the "chase me" act. Since we didn't get out of the van, we slowly followed him, letting him think he was "controlling" this hugh red monster. LOL When we stopped and backed up a little, he came running back to challenge us again. When we drove slowly away, I'll bet he was really proud of himself.

I see these in our area, but I can never find their nest. I wonder what happens if one does find the nest and just sits down and watches the eggs as the birds try to lead away? Does the mother/father give up their display and come back to guard the eggs?

About Nikongranny

Old, retired with lots of time on my hands and a Nikon. Lucky for me, there is a park just north of town that provides me with migrating birds and sunsets. Since joining this site, I have a new appreciation for this scenic world we live in. I especially love the comments from so many great people on here.
