Rabbit Ears Pass, CO (Current Weather Conditions)

Caption: Or so it says on the side of this aspen tree, along with other initials and names. This is very common and can be seen almost anywhere there is easy access to these white barked beauties, especially once the first initial has been carved. My friend says that on some of her hikes she has seen them, high on the trees, dating back to the 20's, when mining was big, so there is history on those trees, I wonder if Kevin still ♥ Kelly? I hope so. He told everybody!:-D

When I'm up on McClure one of these times, I'll
go to the aspen grove with hundreds of initials
and names on them and show you. I think I can
remember how to find it.:-)

I have seen initials and names on the trees in Northern Utah and Southern Idaho so many times when I was growing up there. I enjoyed your comments about this beautiful photo.

It's been going on for many, many years, Heidrun
and luckily, the trees seem to thrive in spite
of it. Thanks!

The white bark is so beautiful - luckily these trees survived all the engravings !

Yes, Duane, I think my friend also mentioned the
early sheepherders, as well. Interesting, no?
Carl! I tried not to giggle, but...:-) Good
ol' Western humor!

They say in this area the old Basque sheepherders would write messages on the aspen as well as the dates and their names when they were here.

I am SO SAD that WU is getting rid of the photography section. This has been the most wonderful outlet for me and my photography and I have met so many awesome people and seen photography that has been amazing on so many levels, because of WU. Thank you for the opportunities you gave us with your site. Man, I will really, really miss this. :-(
